Japanese Lanterns (Rustic Modern Knits P48)

Interlaced Stitch (on Page 48)

Row 1 (WS): Sl 1 pwise wyf, K1, *Insert needle into next st to purl and wrap yarn around needle 4 times, then purl the st withdrawing all the wraps along with the needle; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.

Row 2 (RS): Sl 1 pwise wyf, K1, *Sl 8 sts with yarn in back, drapping all extra wraps and creating 8 long sts on right needle; insert left needle into the first 4 of these 8 long sts and pass them over the 2nd 4 sts; return all sts to left needle and knit sts in new order; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.

 **Please try these 2 rows as follows. I think the following instructions are easier to understand for some people.

Row 1 (WS): Sl 1, k1, purl across, wrapping yarn around needle 3 times when making each st, work to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 2 (RS): Sl 1, k1, *(slip st to RH needle, dropping the extra wraps) 8 times. Put these 8 sts back on the LH needle. (Skip first 4 sts on LH needle, pass the next stitch over first 4 sts and then knit it) 4 times, then knit the remaining elongated 4 sts.
